A few vintage pieces

Hello all, hope you're having a wonderful Friday.
Today I want to show you a few vintage pieces that I have in my home.
I love this old tea set that Mr. ARCE bought for me, I tried cleaning it but it is worse now than it was before, ooops!

This is an iron casserole (I have only cooked pine cones in it LOL!)

An old oiler

A lantern and milk can by the fireplace.

Shelf holding a few of my lovely hats (No, I don't wear them, they are only for decoration)

And some mexican pottery on top of my niche.

Make sure to visit the other parties for more inspiration.

Au revoir!

Gotta love books!

I am so excited because I received this book in the mail yesterday.  I am an avid collector of books and this one I really wanted to have in my collection.  I will never get used to the new "kindle" I like to touch and feel the pages of a book.
It has beautiful pictures (and as a very inexperienced blogger, I deleted some that I wanted to show you).
Also has instructions on different painting techniques, sewing curtains, etc.

I ordered it through Amazon, which has an incredible selection of used books in perfect condition, this one supposedly was used but I bet you it was never opened.  It is perfect.
I received it from Hastings and when I ordered it the price was $7.99 plus shipping $3.99.
When I received it, the price on the back of the book was $4.99.

Moral of the story:  Check your local "used" book store before ordering through the internet, you never know the prices you'll find.

There is still time to enter my giveaway
I will chose the winner on Thursday!

Until next time mes amies have a great day!

I learned a lot

Welcome to another Studio Sunday linking to Rebecca Ersfeld showing you another of my failed projects.

I love ballerinas, so I thought that since I can sew pillows now, I could easily sew a muslin bag.  So I dyed the muslin pink and cut it.
I had in my mind that I wanted ruffles and a ballerina silhouette, so happily singing a song I am sewing and sewing............ then oh, oh, it isn't as easy as I thought.
First I cut the fabric in the wrong direction, I wanted the bag to have a worn feeling so I learned that you don't just cut fabric and ta-da! Fabric has "grain" like wood.  So I won't have the worn look, but the dee tee dee look.

Second, sewing ruffles, oh my! those don't look like ruffles at all. ugh! I guess there is a special "sewing machine mechanism" to make ruffles.  I am not happy, not happy at all.
But I did learn, my next bag will be pretty, pretty.

Here is the "finished bag"

And here is the pillow matching the bag (The graphics are from "The graphics fairy".

There you have it.  Have a great sunday everyone!

Vintage Inspiration Friday

Today I'm linking this post to Debra at Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday.

Some antique finds.

I don't know how old these shoe forms are, but I think they are cool, a little bit rusty, I'm keeping them outside so they rust more. I had only seen the wooden ones before.

I found this huge (about 2 1/2 feet long) spoon at a SH store, it's made out of metal, it will be painted "antique white" of course and may be hold some moss and a lamb (copying Debra here)

I scored this urn for very little money, what do you think to paint or not to paint?  I don't have any gold in my house so I was thinking white.

For now it is holding my favorite only fern.

I'm also linking today to The charm of home, stop by and say hi to the other parties.

Finished "french" pillows

I  got a sewing machine, a present from belle-mere (to be honest with you, I've never been interested in sewing before) but now I want to sew, sew, sew, it's so much fun!
I have cut like 8 pillows and finished two.  I still don't know the design for the rest of them,  should I keep printing the french crowns? what do you think, any ideas out there?

For this one I dyed some muslin, I love the uneven color, makes it look old.  I have more dyed muslin to make more pillows, but it is so hard to find the doilies.
May be I'll print some ballerina images on them.

Beautiful!

Majestic.

Solitude.

Me on top of the world.

Husband and son walking up the Canyon.  Icy and slippery but they made it back to the top.

White Wednesday

I'm liking this post to  Kathleen at Faded Charm

I never liked white, never ever.  My home is filled with dark colors, I was so in to dark colors that I painted all the furniture in the living room black.  The only thing I had white in my house are the doors and they came with the house, so there was no way I was going to paint 20 doors in a dark color.  But thanks to all the lovely ladies in blogland I started to like white.
Now I like chippy old white sooo much that want to start painting everything white.  My husband is already pulling his hair! He doesn't see that happening.

For now I'm starting with small items:

These candle holders were black (obviously) with a raffia bow and a heart.  Nope, too country, so I painted them "white"

I found these vintage gloves (believe it or not, they fit me) at Chucks, Carrie has beautiful vintage clothes in her shop.

This hand carved "batea" was just a wooden old batea, now it's a white batea.

These (well, I don't know what they are) linens were given to me by the sweet 95 year old Helen, I treasure them.

And that's all I have for now, hope to show you more white things next time.

SUNDAY STUDIO

Today is Sunday Studio  and I'm linking this post to Sunday Studio with Rebecca Ersfeld

I made some natural soap, the following pictures are of Sea Salt Spa bars:

Here are all the ingredients ready to start the process.

Using the stick blender to incorporate all the ingredients (all natural of course)

Here the sea salt is added.  The scent is lemon verbena which is a combination of lime, grapefruit, lemon and litsea cubeba essential oils.

In to the mold it goes.

After 24 hours the bars are cut and unmolded.  After that they need to be "cured" which means "being exposed to the air" for at least 4 weeks.  Salt bars are commonly used at spas due to their high content of minerals (fron the sea salt) which is wonderfuel for your skin.  Some people ask if they don't dry your skin due the salt, but they don't.
The lather is lotion like and leave your sking soft and refreshed.

These aren't salt bars, just some facial soap, the purple is ylang-ylang and patchouli and the green/pink pumice and grapefruit (wonderful for dry heels).

That's all I have for today.  Hope you can join Rebecca for Sunday Studio.
